i bought some art
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 06:58PM This past weekend my friend Becky and I went to the Bucktown Arts Fest where crafters, photographers, painters, musicians, and people get together for a day full of food, fun, and art. I saw a a good amount of really talented artists. One photographer, DENISE KEIM, had black and white in-your-face portraits of people met along her travels. Her photographs are square format, adding to its uniqueness. AMY ARNOLD is a sewer who uses recycled felted wool and other fabrics to create interesting sculptures, or dolls, she likes to call 'peepwool'. Near the end of the show we came across DOLAN GEIMAN's booth, the artist of the piece I purchased. He uses old found scraps of paper and magazine and collages them with screen prints and paint splashes on wood. Geiman calls himself a 'country mouse gone Vogue' and also has his own line of fashion. Below is the piece I bought...
I saw the image of the girl and fell in love, her shocked innocent eyes caught my attention and I really liked the map-like design on the side. It seems as if she is looking for some place to go or waiting for someone from far away to come back to her.
